Located in South Coast of Portugal, Silves is an old town in Algarve covered with history and beauty. It is one of the oldest cities in the region, having been occupied by the Moorish conquerors and Romans. What to do in Silves The Roman Bridge It is a medieval bridge built over the Arade River; it is a quiet place to do a walk or sit on a bench to appreciate the view of the river. Cross of Portugal An enigmatic limestone sculpted in the format of Crucifix from one side, a Pietà from the other, this piece has been classified as a National Monument since 1910. Silves Castle In the top of the hill, the Silves Castle rise the walls to protect the inhabitants for more than a thousand years. Silves was conquered by King Sancho I in 1189; his statue can be visited in the entrance of the Castle. The Castle is open every day (except Christmas and New Year day) The ticket costs 2.80 Euros; there is a combined ticket to visit the Museum by the price of 3.90 Euros.
